Palenque - Chiapas

 

Located to the northwest of the state of Chiapas, to approximately 290 km of the City of Tuxtla Gutiérrez and to 220 km of San Cristóbal of the Houses, Palenque is one of the more important archaeological zones of the Mayan world, a destiny that, simply, does not have to let visit during its next trip to the South region of the Mexican Republic.

Nailed in the heart of a tropical climate forest, with a temperature annual average of 26°C, with rains during the summer, Palenque offers to his visitors the surprising image of his temples and buildings explored from S. XIX, and that date from the Classic Period (400-700 d.C.).

Between its more important constructions they emphasize: The Palace, that is distinguished by its great tower that excels of the rest of the construction; the Temples of the Sun, de la Cruz and de la Cruz Foliada, that surround to the Seat by the Sun and the mysterious Temple by the Inscriptions, in which it was discovered, in 1952, the tomb - with the treasures of king Pakal, old governor of the City that sent to construct this building so that, to its death, this one worked as its sacred tomb. In the environment of the archaeological zone, of exuberant vegetation, it will be able to practice trekking and to appreciate the flora and fauna, while it explores more than 1.700 acres that is conformed the National Park Palenque, where inhabit different types from birds and mammals like the jaguars and monkeys. 6 km to the east of the archaeological zone and the National Park, is located the city of Palenque where you will find lodging, restaurants, stores and markets. Close to this city you will be able to discover Water falls of Agua Azul Azul and Misol-Há, where you will be able to practice camping and observe landscapes that, formerly, only could be admired by the Mayan princes.
